I most likely will not be able to study in any of my desired and eligible for majors here, including CSE, ME, and EE. If you are not a rich prick or geek, a "minority", cheater, out of state, international, or direct admin student, and intend to study any sort of STEM major, do not attend the University of Washington!

Because of the overwhelming number of applicants they receive, 48,000 in this year of 2016 alone they follow a very general system.

Imagine a grid system, with G.P.A on the bottom x axis (with increments of say 0.1 ticks, min is 0.0 and max is 4.0), and on the left y axis side with SAT and ACT scores. The question you need to ask yourself is where are you on that plot? This is a pretty common screening technique that many colleges use to weed out candidates. The cutoff (threshold) can vary from school to school and from year to year. I find that a super high G.P.A with an average SAT/ACT score will get you in. It is only when you are that threshold when they will start to consider your extra-curriculars, community service, etc.

So obviously, if you have a 4.0 and have a perfect SAT/ACT then you're in, no joke. UW is not Harvard yet in rejecting "perfect" individuals. But that still doesn't mean that you can slack senior year or blow off extra-curriculars. I mean as long as you're a very good student and do some stuff in your free time to make you look well rounded, then you should be set.

Getting into the undergraduate Architecture Program is very hard. You have to do a year of prerequisite classes in order to qualify. 3 quarters of architectural history, and 2 of pre-studio. It is very competitive. It starts out with about 250 people taking the initial fall quarter classes, and then drops to about 80 people during winter. Only 40-50 people get in every year. You have to submit a portfolio the first day of Spring quarter, and have a statement of purpose (there are prompts). I recommend taking additional art/photography/ceramics etc classes during your Freshman and Sophomore years, so you can beef up your portfolio to make you stand out. That is what I did. The AIAS club does a review of portfolios from the previous year that got in, it really helps to get that insider knowledge.
